Our brave and loving daughter, sister, aunt, and great aunt Shantel Van Staveren passed away on February 20, 2020. Shantel was born July 3, 1974, daughter of Rina Slinger Evens and John M. Van Staveren. Shantel is the youngest of five siblings, who survive her: Debby (Daryl) Dummer, Rick (Sandie) Van Staveren, Michelle (Dave) Bump, and Brenda (Mike) McLachlan.

Shantel graduated from Hillcrest High School, class of 1992. She survived two cancers and a bone marrow transplant donated by her sister Debby. She suffered from health complications from her cancer treatments, but she was a fighter. Shantel married Shyler Boren on July 11, 2000. Shantel is now with her love in the next life.

From a young age, Shantel delighted in being an aunt to 14. She enjoyed spending time with 15 great nieces and nephews. She relished the beach and the sun, especially Bear Lake and California. She liked to travel when she could, recently visiting Holland with family. She loved her fur babies Bo and Buddie.

Shantel admired her father. They had frequent long conversations about life and politics.

Shantel became very close with her mother Rina, especially while living with her and step-father John Evens. Together they talked, laughed, cried, and prayed.

A service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 12:00 noon at the Draper 9th Ward, 12353 South 600 East, Draper, Utah. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:45 at the same location. Interment will take place at Mountain View Memorial Park following the service.
